Femme: A Fragrance By Me

I created this fragrance for women like me. Strong, independent women with a passion for fashion and a feminine side. We support ourselves but want to look, feel, and smell sexy while we do it. We are empowered and we choose what makes us happy.

My Brows Love Microblading

When my sister messaged me about potentially taking the training to become certified in a newish technique called microblading I had already been growing in my brows for at least six months. Unfortunately, I had realized that my dreams of simply growing out my brows from weirdly shaped (my sister called them sperm shaped while I prefer teardrop shaped) to peak Cara Delevingne brows were never going to come true. So when her certification was scheduled and she needed a live student to practice on, I volunteered.

HASK Coconut Oil Hair Care

IMG_7806I am rough on my hair. I try to let it air dry by showering at night but then I curl it with a straightener. In the winter I only have to heat style my hair every few days but in the summer, that becomes more frequent. I have found that by using quality hair care products, with mostly natural ingredients, I can reduce the damage that my hair endures. I specifically look for products that are free of sulfates and alcohol as both are unnecessary for getting clean hair and yet they can be drying. I also like to find a product with a natural oil based product contained within the ingredient list. This new HASK Coconut Oil collection checks all of those boxes so I decided that I would like to give it a try. Continue reading “HASK Coconut Oil Hair Care”

The Best (and Worst) of The Body Shop

IMG_7070As I have mentioned before, finding products that are cruelty-free is really important to me and I think it was actually The Body Shop that first introduced me to the importance of this philosophy and practice. I have since come to love them for their fabulous sales (buy 3 & get 3 free, for example) and for being available in most towns and online with reasonable shipping rates. I now have an established loyalty to a few of their products and I wanted to tell you about those. This is not a sponsored review, these are just products that I truly believe in, and one or two that just did not work for me but I want to be honest about. In some cases, I have been using these hair and skin care products for years, I am just that satisfied with the amazing results. However, in other cases, I have returned products I wasn’t happy with and I tell you exactly which ones those were. On the plus side, the Body Shop has a pretty excellent return policy, if you are ever less than satisfied with the results or quality of a product. Contouring Compliments

IMG_6901I have wanted to venture into at home contouring and highlighting for quite some time now. I am used to having contouring  done to me by makeup artists on set, and for a number of years that was a regular occurrence for me. The one thing that I didn’t want, was that same heavy duty on set makeup, that I was used to for modeling, for everyday use. So instead of using foundations or concealers, I knew I wanted to try something with a powder formula. About a month ago, I went to pick up this Highlight & Contour Pro Pallette from NYX, once my local Shoppers Drug Mart started carrying the brand and it was sold out. I took this as a good sign and kept an eye out for it from that point on.  Continue reading “Contouring Compliments”

Vichy Works For Me

IMG_6816Having tried a few Vichy products back in my days of working for Shoppers Drug Mart in the Cosmetics department, I was excited to try the Aqualia line. The Vichy Aqualia Thermal line includes a serum, eye balm, and a cream all based around hydrating the skin to reduce fine lines. More on those products below. First, I want to tell you why I was so excited to try these products. It is because, my favourite cleanser of all time, no exaggeration at all, is the Vichy Pureté One Step 3-in-1 Milk Cleanser for Sensitive Skin. Nothing removes eye makeup better than this cleanser does. The best part is that you can use it in the shower as a face wash or on a cotton pad without water at all. It is so gentle on your eyes, no rubbing needed, and yet it removes even the toughest makeup smoothly. It is perfect! I cannot recommend this product enough, and while I recommend a lot of products on this blog, I would honestly say this is my #1 favourite product ever. So if you haven’t tried this Vichy cleanser yet, make it your next purchase, you won’t regret it. Keep reading on to find out how you can win the entire Vichy Aqualia Thermal line, enriched with Vichy Mineralizing Spa Water. Continue reading “Vichy Works For Me”

Farmacy Skin Dew

Farmacy Skin Dew
I love skin care products but I really only want to use the most natural, animal-friendly brands and so when I stumbled upon Farmacy, I wanted to give them a try. If you are like me, you will love them for never testing on animals and being free of parabens, formaldehyde, phthalates, sulphates and artificial colouring. In fact, the bottle of Skin Dew contains a note that because the colour is natural, it may change over time, without altering the quality of the product. The setting spray contains a unique ingredient called Echinacea Purpurea, GreenEnvy. It contains the highest known concentration of the phytochemical Cichoric Acid, a potent natural antioxidant which helps protect and firm the skin by inhibiting the enzymes that break down collagen. Cichoric Acid also normalizes the skin pigmentation process to promote a more evenly toned complexion. Continue reading “Farmacy Skin Dew”

Self Care with Joe Scrub

6d9317_9930948f1d9543768b82b63cf624f567Self-care is so important, this really cannot be overstated. As a person whose day job is in the helping field, this is particularly important. I’m sure you’ve heard the saying, “you can’t take care of others if you don’t take care of yourself” because it is true. Self-care can take on many forms, from yoga, hot bubble baths and body scrubs to running, volunteering and cuddling puppies. The action itself is defined by you and only you, the only thing that matters is that you take the time to take care of yourself on a regular basis. I really find the process of an exfoliating body and face scrub, cleansing shower and then moisturizing oil session is a good way for me to take a 20-minute break from the day. Joe Scrub is kind of perfect for this because it recommends that you leave the scrub on for 5-10 minutes for best results. I find this time is perfect for a bit of an unofficial mediation. I think a lot of people think meditation needs to occur on a yoga mat or while sitting alone on the ground in a small room. All that meditation needs to be is you clearing your mind of thoughts, which I do by focusing on one mantra expressing my intention for the day or coming week. The simplest thing I ever meditate on is one word, usually something along the lines of Peace or Serenity. Repeating the word anytime my mind wanders. You can also download guided meditations that are really helpful, especially when you are first giving meditation a try. Let me know in the comments, what works best for you. Simple Skincare

IMG_6061I absolutely love these Simple Micellar Make-up Remover Wipes, they are my favourite product of the three in this line, all of which are included in this blog post. They are effective at removing makeup and have a tiny refreshing tingle without getting to the point that it irritates the skin as sometimes happens with other wipes. I love that they are good for sensitive skin and are extra soft to the touch as a result. I really love using wipes like these for before bed because I am pretty lazy and there is no need to rinse after. In fact, I can keep them in my living room and use them right from my couch. They don’t dry out the skin at all and they smell clean, almost completely scent free. Perfect for plane travel since it is one less liquid I have to deal with at security. #BioreBakingSoda

6d9317_c389b4ca448a436f836435072ead8d60My first Influenster box, how exciting! Just to be clear, right up front, I want to let you know that, yes I did receive these full-size products from Bioré in exchange for me testing them. But you know me, and you know I am still going to be completely honest about my experience using both the Bioré Baking Soda Pore Cleanser and the Cleansing Scrub. The latter actually comes in a powder form, which is pretty neat. It is the ultimate in concentrated products, because why waste the weight and space on water when it can easily be added during use. In that way it is actually kind of eco-friendly by reducing emissions during shipping, long story but if they can fit more units on one truck by keeping water out, that makes a huge difference in how much fuel is expended to ship these products to stores. But, more on all of the benefits of a dry scrub later. For now, here is what Bioré says about why they included Baking Soda as one of the main ingredients, “with its natural ability to deep clean and gently exfoliate, baking soda is your new secret weapon in the fight for clean pores. These cleansers powerfully purify pores, absord oil and gently exfoliate skin. You’ll see instantly smoother, softer and visibly tighter pores after just one use.” Overall, given my experience, I agree with that. Continue reading “#BioreBakingSoda”
